screenshotsKameo: Elements of Power Preview (Articles)
Kameo isn't exactly the most appealing title at first view. A game about fairies and magically morphing creatures; sounds like a bastardised version of Pokemon, Power Rangers and a fairytale; but after 20 minutes with this game your opinion will have changed.
We had the opportunity to play an early level taking place in a castle. Starting with three of the 8 available forms, Chilla, Pummelweed and Armadillo, an ice-age-esque ice monster, a boxing plant and a well… take a guess respectively; we had to break into the castle.
The puzzles are fairly simple, using each forms special skills to get past various obstacles such as Armadillo's speed burst skill for getting over the various half-pipe like ramps scattered across the level.
The game is clearly aimed at a younger audience however, it makes a refreshing change to not struggle with everything but at the same time feel like the game is a walkover; Rare's distinctive gameplay at its best.
Each form has its weakness and strength, for example while Armadillo is great for getting over ramps; he is useless at beating up the ogres who hide under spike covers shields. Similarly, Pummelweed who with his boxing ability is great for cracking open the shield; it isn't exactly a smart move to use him against the fire-based enemies later on in the level.
Don't dismiss Kameo purely and simply because of its younger target audience. Beneath all the cute and fluff is killer gameplay, and an extremely enjoyable game.
