Spellforce 2 Q&A//General News

Following the Q&A theme, we've also posted up a recent Q&A with Martin Löhlein, Project Manager for the upcoming Spellforce 2.

You have just released a collection AVI's how close do you feel that they represent the game or are they just gloss?
Actually these AVIs do not look as good as the game does by now, they were just intended as a first glimpse. They were captured with an older iteration of our game engine, which still lacked a number of features such as glow and a number of really never-seen-before shaders or the different lighting moods concerning the lighting.

But that is just the technical side. From a gameplay side we did not want to show too much, yet. We will have some more and more spectacular AVIs coming up soon, which will show the game in its full graphical and atmospheric brilliance, but also scenes captured while people were actually playing the game, to give a better impression of what the players can expect.

How have you structured the RTS element in SF2 will it be a marked difference from the first game?
While the RTS element in SpellForce 1 was mostly focused on resource management and build-up, SpellForce 2 focuses on battle. The build-up is way faster and needs less micro management and we work with much fewer resources to increase speed and ease of gameplay.
As before, head over to our articles section for the full skinny.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Rumours Quashed//PC News

Following yesterdays news post about a number of false rumours flying around the internet about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - GSC Game World (the Developers of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) have issued a statement this morning clarifying the rumours surrounding the game. Without further ado here is the statement in full:

GSC: clarifying rumours on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Kiev, 30.01.2006

To clarify the concerns of some fans regarding S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-related rumours to have appeared recently on the net, GSC Game World believes it necessary to explain the following:

  • The project is on the stage of beta approval and is being actively developed in close cooperation with the publisher.
  • The team has undergone certain reductions, particularly in the art section, due to all the graphics-related works being almost complete (out of 40 people 5 were dismissed). None of the leads, programmers and moreover, testers may not be reduced at any time.
  • Regarding the technology leak, none of the designers gone has the rights to the game's engine (all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. technologies, including the X-Ray engine and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-2 engine belong to the company). Even if the current or next-generation engine would appear on the net, their legal use is impossible. GSC does not intend to sell its technologies in the nearest time, so as does not intend to postpone the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl due to rumours of that kind.

Xbox Shortages Delay Australian Launch//Xbox 360 News

Microsoft has officially delayed the Australian launch of the Xbox 360 till March 23rd due to on-going shortages of its next generational console. The console which saw its 'worldwide' launch in 2005 in North America, Europe and Japan has sold out in almost all territories except Japan.

Microsoft told the Australian press "The new launch dates have been set due to the unprecedented global consumer demand stemming from the challenges in ramping supply for a complex product like the Xbox 360." Continuing they explained that, "This is a short-term manufacturing challenge and steps have been taken to increase supply to provide adequate supplies at launch."

The console has been in extremely short supply in the UK, US and Canada especially where consoles are still selling above RRP on internet auction house eBay.

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Problems Only a Rumour//PC News

According to an article on CVG, recent rumours doing the rounds of the Internet had reported that GSC Gameworld's upcoming game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was in trouble,

that the game's publisher, THQ, had pulled funding with a view to assuming control of development of the title - potentially placing it into the hands of another studio for completion. Additionally, it was suggested that certain members of GSC's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. development team had been moved to another project while others had been laid off.
These reports have been dismissed by GSC Gameworld's PR manager Oleg Yavorsky:
"What you're talking about is a completely unjustified rumour which appeared on the net just recently."
The game is still slated for release towards the end of this year.
