| Pro-G unveils major facelift | //General News | One of the UK's biggest and most prestigious multi-format games websites namely Pro-G.co.uk has had a major facelift. Here is the press release in full: London, England, March 30 2006: Pro-G Media is proud to announce the re-launch of Pro-G (Pro-G.co.uk), one of the UK's fastest growing online video games publications. The new site features a fresh new look, an enhanced brand, and an array of new community features and additional content. Pro-G also opens up a range of new marketing opportunities for advertisers, representing a step forward in its commercial status.
To celebrate the re-launch, all readers who register on the site will automatically be entered into a prize draw of over £2000 worth of video games. For more information visit www.pro-g.co.uk/launch.
With a strong focus on community, the new site offers the ability to comment on all articles in conjunction with a brand new forum, featuring a flash games arcade and a classifieds section. Pro-G also introduces a Friday morning newsletter, containing a round-up of the week's biggest top stories as well as the latest articles, forum posts, cheats, and screenshots.
The news section has been redesigned to provide a more consistent user experience, allowing readers to search and filter articles by type. Also, to ensure the continued quality and reliability of Pro-G's news, any article containing speculative information is clearly separated from standard headlines and marked as a rumour.
One of the biggest additions to the site is a large cheats database, with over 9,000 hints, guides, maps, mods, and savegames now available, continually updated throughout each week by CheatHappens.com, Pro-G's new content partner.
For advertisers, Pro-G offers exclusive front page and newsletter sponsorship with standard IAB graphical units as well as optional custom locations and sizes. Advertising has been seamlessly integrated within the new design at the same time as increasing the volume of content accessible on all pages. Run-of-site campaigns also represent value for money, with a range of delivery options available.
Developed using the latest technologies, Pro-G's new site will enable the company to put into motion the innovative new services it plans to launch in the coming months. The company has also secured a far-reaching content agreement with a major UK ISP to be announced in the next few days, with 2006 to see a number of key appointments made to continue the rapid growth of the company.
"The whole Pro-G team has worked very hard on the re-launch over the past six months, so it's fantastic to see the new site up and running," said Tom Orry, Pro-G's Content Director. "We hope new and current readers alike will enjoy the additional features and content we've added, and take part in Pro-G's growing community".
Adam McCann, Pro-G's Director of Operations added, "2006 will be a very big year for the company, and we very much look forward to expanding our range of media services for both businesses and consumers". posted by duke on 30/03/2006 at 12:05:35

| Gamer in Japan: Gundam 0079 - The One Year War | //General News | Matt's back early with another installment in his Gamer in Japan series. This time around he's talking about Gundam 0079 - The One Year War. It doesn't take long to see that all things Gundam are pretty massive in Japan, with multiple series of the animation, many varieties of collectible cards, a literal army of models and toys, not to mention just about as many games as could be churned out since its inception, Gundam is perhaps the epitome of Japanese animation and big robots blowing stuff up.

| Crysis Information | //PC News | EA have released a 'fact sheet' for Cytek's upcoming first person shooter Crysis. Earth, 2019: A colossal asteroid crashes down to Earth.
The North Korean Government quickly seals off the island chain, claiming the mysteries of the asteroid for themselves. The United States responds by dispatching an elite team of Delta Force Operators to recon the situation and report back to the Pentagon. Amid rising tensions between the US and North Koreans, the asteroid suddenly bursts open, revealing a massive, 2km high alien ship. The ship generates an immense force sphere, freezing a vast portion of the island and drastically altering the global weather system. The invasion of Earth has begun.
The two rival nations unite to stop the aliens and save mankind. The newly formed alliance fights epic battles against the marauding Aliens. With hope rapidly fading, the player must lead a crack squad through lush tropical jungle, harsh frozen landscapes, and finally into the heart of the alien ship itself for the ultimate Zero G encounter with the aliens.
Feature include real-world tactics used by Enemy and ally AI systems, a wide range of vehciles to control, a dynamic environment and 'emergent gameplay: ; actions taken in the game affect future outcomes giving each player a unique experience.'
Crysis is due for release early next year.

| FIFA 2006 Interview | //General News | EA have passed around an interview with Joe Nickolls, talking about aspects of their 2006 FIFA World Cup game. New penalty kicks mode
Joe Nickolls: Penalty Kicks play such a big part of World Cup that we wanted to make this feature as authentic as possible. Historically penalty kicks have always played an important roll in the outcome of World Cup games and when you get to the penalty shoot-out situation the pressure goes up. What we have tried to do is transfer that pressure to the user in the videogame. In the real world you see the crowd and your teammates reacting to each situation and there's pressure on each player to make the shot. We have tried to take that feeling and make it visual.
Gamers can now employ new moves to improve their chances of scoring or saving the shot. New distracting techniques for the keeper, including waving arms and moving along the goal line, make this really authentic. Even the shooting player can attempt to chip his shot to fool the goalkeeper.
The penalty mode incorporates a new 'nerve bar'. Pressing the shot button to hit the sweet spot is the key to the perfect shot. However, the sweet spot now moves at varying speeds depending on the ability and experience of the player, making it hard or easier to hit the target.
