| Sore heads all round after we spent an evening sipping champagne and assessing the impact of the latest Microsoft products to want space in your digital home... oh, and playing Doom 3! On Tuesday night, we were invited to the press launch of Windows XP Media Center 2005 to have a look at the future of home entertainment and computing. The event, held at London's Titanic bar and compered by Cynthia Crossley (Business Group Lead, Microsoft), allowed us a first glimpse at the newest Media Center offerings from companies such HP and Toshiba, as well as more bespoke manufacturer like MV, Spire and Carrera (who are also behind the Demonite range of extreme gaming PCs). What has this got to do with gaming, you may ask? Well, a number of the systems on show had more than enough grunt to run games such as Halo and we spent a memorable hour with the guys from MV, playing Doom 3 will all effects on at 1280x1024 on a system that weighs less than an Xbox. Aside from the tiny terrors, we were also treated to a look at an impressive (and high-end) system from Vivadi, which is guaranteed to put a hole the size of Wales in your wallet. In the coming weeks we're hoping to get our hands on some of these systems to put them through their paces -and with prices on some systems starting at an extremely low £599, you can rest assured that we'll be telling you if they're worth your hard-earned savings. | |
