TAXI!!!!// review
About 2 weeks ago we requested a copy of the new shareware game from Twilight Games, Space Taxi 2. Regular readers of News0r will recognise my inane ability to get stupidly nostalgic at the mention of Commodore 64s or Amstrads. Naturally i flipped out over this new version of a great classic.

Upon installing the game I was immediately struck by the similarities between the new version and the old, which coincidentally can also be downloaded from the same site. The basic controls of up, down, left, right and the space bar keep the originality and simplicity of games from the era. The graphics have been jazzed up from the original but the game play remains the same and the objective of Space Taxi also remains.

To complete each level you must manoeuvre the taxi around and pick up each customer, returning them safely to their destination. The basic ideals of older games are becoming less and less apparent with the complexities of newer titles and it is interesting to see that some companies are still willing to keep it simple.

I'm afraid the real question mark on this game lies over the price. Currently it will cost you $19.99 to download the full version from the Twilight Games Website and this appears a bit pricey. The game is challenging in parts and generally fun to play, but the lack of depth and repetitive nature of the game play, plus a quick comparison to other budget games, implies that the price of Space Taxi 2 could do with dropping a bob or two. This aside it's a great, fun sequel to a Commodore classic and well worth a look.
