| Review By Luke Newcombe Whenever we review hardware we always try to cover the comfort factor, ergonomics of the design and ease of use in as much detail as possible so without further ado here is our review of the PC 120 Headset. Ever since we can remember we've always had the need to use headsets whilst playing online games. We've used a number of officially licensed products and unofficial on the PC, Xbox and Xbox 360 but we've always wanted a headset that is compatible with latest mobile phones too. Imagine our delight when Sennheiser Communications got in touch with us and asked us if we would like to review their latest bit of kit, the PC 120 headset. We jumped at the chance mainly so we could test it out on a range of hardware and let you know if it is worth your hard earned cash. The PC 120 Headset arrived and upon opening we were impressed with the presentation of the headset engulfed within its packaging. Our initial thoughts were that the PC 120 was just a PC headset but once we got the kit out of the packaging we could see the relevant connectors for console and mobile phone hook up. As we mentioned above you can use the PC 120 headset with mobile phones, PC's, the Xbox and the Xbox 360. Microsoft has not endorsed the PC 120 headset but if you're looking for an alternative headset that can be used on multiple devices then the PC 120 may just be for you. The PC 120's headset is very comfortable and once you've played a few online games you'll forget it's on your head apart from the fact that it is connected to your PC - so you won't get too far without pulling the lead out of its socket, obviously. One of the benefits of the PC 120 headset is that you can easily adjust it from one ear to the other. It is a case of just flipping the microphone over to the other side. The headset fits perfectly on the ear with the ear piece placed in the right position so you can hear all of the online mayhem. The design of the headset is slick and is perfect for VOIP (Voice Over IP) use on applications such as Windows Live Messenger or Skype. Let's not forget that this headset is for online gaming chat and not just for phone calls over the internet. We booted up our high-end gaming PC to try out the PC 120 on a number of PC games and to our surprise it actually worked really well. The sound heard via the ear piece was remarkably crisp and when we spoke to a number of people in CounterStrike they could hear us loud and clear. Using the headset with mobile phones is simply a case of plug 'n' play. As you plug the headsets connecting port directly into the phone and bingo, start chatting hands free. This is ideal when you're typing away on a computer or when you're driving. With that said we'd prefer a wireless headset when using a mobile phone but that's just us. After testing the PC 120 headset on our mobile phones and PC it was time to try it out on Xbox Live via the Xbox and Xbox 360. Connecting the headset to the controller was relatively easy but there is no way to change the volume if you're using the PC 120 headset on the Xbox. However, via the Xbox 360 dashboard you can change the volume at will but this can be a tiresome process especially when you're in-game. Overall the sound quality was pretty good when we used the PC 120 headset via Xbox Live but at times there were a few instances when other players not been able to hear us even though we were speaking loudly into the microphone. The PC 120 headset is good value for money considering that you can use it on multiple devices. | |
